Commemorating 65 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka, the Bogor Botanical Gardens get extraordinary special collections in the form of the Sri Lankan National Tree, Na Tree (Mesua ferrea). Tree planting submitted by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka for Indonesia and ASEAN, H.E. Dharshana M. Perera was held at the Plant Conservation Center (PKT) of the LIPI Botanical Gardens (Bogor Botanical Gardens), Bogor City on Monday (07/02/2018).
Na Tree was decided as the National Tree of Sri Lanka on February 26, 1986, because this tree is most closely related to the Sri Lankan people socially and habitually for thousands of years. This tree has special value for the people of Sri Lanka. This is closely related to the Sri Lankan people in some centuries before who did not use it a little like an ancient Aryuveda medicinal plant, wooden buildings in ancient temples and bridges.
The flowers are among the parts of worship in religious rituals and adorn the national park with the beauty of trees and flowers. In Indonesia alone, especially in Java, the Na Tree, known as the Nagasari tree, has little benefit in both its wood and fruit and flowers. Some ethnic groups believe it is a repellent tree.
This tree which is a rare plant in Sri Lanka is one of the fortified species because of its connection with national identity and Sri Lanka’s strong commitment to preserving the environment.
The flowers are white, fragrant, and are used as herbal ingredients. While the wood is the hardest and longest so that it is not used little for temples, bridges and so on in the past.
The shape of the leaves varies, from thin to thick, measuring 1 × 5 cm to 5 × 18 cm, but often 3 × 10 cm. The leaves are narrow, elongated, oval, long and pointed round. Young leaves at the top are pink and turn green if they are old. The combination that creates the Na tree looks beautiful.
Buah Na is an oval capsule containing 1-3 seeds. The fruit and seeds of Na contain 76% oil and have a high value because they can be used as medicine.
Na trees can be up to 30 meters high and 70 cm in diameter. The inner skin is dark brown. The next coat is filamentous reddish brown and publishes clear color sap. The brown wood is pseudo-brown in pink. The hardwood is red, hardest, solid and thick — the smallest branch, round and hard to see.
This Sri Lankan National Tree is imported directly from the Peradeniya Botanical Garden or the Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya (RBG Peradeniya), the first botanical garden in Sri Lanka. Dharshana aspires Na Tree to symbolize good relations and long-term friendship between the people of Indonesia and Sri Lanka, and expand and deepen the relationship between the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and the Bogor Botanical Gardens.

Watering too little water will often cause the plant to become drought and die. Conversely, the technique of treating by flushing too small will cause decay in the roots. Follow the general tips on plant care techniques with watering tips for plants below:
Water the plants during the night or morning, so that the plants have the water supply to deal with the hot day.
Flush plants in many different parts and may not only concentrate at one point.
Avoid flushing the leaves too wet because it will invite plant diseases.
Avoid standing water because the oxygen pathway will be covered and cause the plant to break down quickly.
# Giving even sunlight
The second way to treat plants after giving up water is to expose plants to sunlight. Plants need sunlight for photosynthesis. Even indoor plants also need direct sunlight occasionally. But, like humans, excessive sunlight can be a wrong technique for treating plants, because your plants can dry, burn, and wither.
In principle, the technique of treating plants with sunlight is ideal is to know the needs of sunlight exposure. Fruit and vegetable gardens often require 6 hours of direct sunlight while ordinary plants are reasons given for 3-4 hours each day.
In contrast to plants that can indeed grow without a little exposure to sunlight like cactus and succulent plants, or ferns and similar plants that only need 2 hours of sunshine each day.
# Fitting Temperature & Humidity
Whatever type of plant you have, vegetables, fruits, flowers or ornamental plants all need the right temperature & humidity level as a routine for proper plant care techniques. You must diligently explore the heat and humidity that match the type of plant you have so that plants do not grow in the wrong weather or place. Choosing plants must be opened from the selection of plants that are following the climate and land situation that you have.

Maintain soil quality with methods to provide organic nutrition, such as fauna or natural compost.
Rotation of plant species, namely by planting some plant species that are the opposite in one season. Thus, there is no backward nest of pests when you rotate.
Optimize the place and situation of plants by submitting fertilizer, sunlight, and proper watering methods.
Diligently wash the weeds or grass that grows.
Avoiding pests and diseases is a way of caring for plants that include easy-to-difficult, especially seasonal pests. So, prioritize the techniques for treating plants with preventive actions above.
# Avoid Chemical Fertilizers
How to treat good plants generally do not often specialize in good care materials; for example, natural fertilizers or treatments have organic properties that are free of harmful chemicals. Many experienced gardeners suggest techniques for treating plants with balances of animal manure, compost, combined macronutrients, and recycled fertilizers. The reason, the purer the content of fertilizer you use in the technique of caring for plants, the more productive and wilt-free results of the garden or plants at home.

At the meeting held in Bologna, the Economic Committee for the multiplication of fodder seeds operating under the national framework contract for the multiplication of fodder seeds indicated the reference price for alfalfa seed certified in nature at 1.30 € / kg , for clean product, ie net of every tare and scrap, as well as any additional bonuses.
“It is undoubtedly a positive sign that the structures participating in the interprofessional agreement have wanted to give the sector in view of a continuous qualification of Italian seed production”, said Roberto Guarnieri , coordinator of the Committee and representative of the industrial part. “The definition of this price was not easy and required several meetings of the inter-professional committee as it was influenced by the extremely significant production results achieved in the last campaign, as in the present, and strongly conditioned by a still very stuck national and international market” .
“The market for alfalfa seed is particular, which is affected by the polyanuality of the crop and in 2018 also by an unfavorable seasonal trend that has seen the collapse of prices, making the destination a non-profitable seed for farms,” he stressed Alessandro Lualdi , president of Coams, the Consortium of seed multiplier farmers and member of the committee. “This is a production that qualifies the Italian agricultural sector: we recognize the effort made this year to support a sector that still needs programming in the short to medium term, to ensure high production standards and economic satisfactions for operators”, he concludes Lualdi.
The official statistics of the CREA-DC, even if it is still not definitive data, show that in 2018 there were just under 50,000 (last year were 37,655) the hectares for which an application for control was presented in the field for of certification , with a constantly growing trend for the past five years. Regarding seed production at the moment official data are not yet available even if the adverse environmental conditions recorded during the production cycle allow to predict lower results than those of the past season.
Sometimes they look like trees. Wisteria plants, when they are well cultivated and have the right space to grow, take on the size and monumental beauty of the trees. Very fragrant, too.
Among the most beautiful ornamental plants ever, the wisteria with its lilac-purple flowers is able to give a touch of color and elegance to the garden: also ideal for adorning gazebos, walls, and railings.
Of the oriental origin and coming in particular from China and Japan, the wisteria blooms in the period between the months of March and April and its cultivation is quite simple.
Originally from the East, especially China and Japan, this climbing shrub can reach 8-10 meters in height, blossoms with its fragrant flowers between March and April and, with appropriate interventions, can also be cultivated in pots on the balcony or on the terrace, even if it requires a lot of space.
How to grow the Hibiscus in the garden
Let’s see together, step by step, how to grow wisteria, in pots or in the garden :
WHEN GROWING GLYCINE
Both in a pot and in the ground, it is preferable to plant the wisteria at the end of winter in order to avoid low temperatures or ice creams from ruining the plant. If you live in areas where the climate remains quite mild even during the winter, you can proceed with the cultivation from September to April.
Even if it is a plant that adapts well to different types of soil, make sure that the wisteria has a clayey soil rich in organic substances. At the time of planting, prefer a sunny area.
HOW TO PLANT GLYCINE
Place a layer of mature manure inside a hole of at least half a meter or a pot, cover with a layer of soil, position the plant, fill the hole or pot with more soil and water abundantly.
Fix the support to which the wisteria will have to climb.
If you intend to proceed with the cultivation by cutting, it should be about 10 cm and should be taken from July to September, placed to root in a soil composed of sand and peat and then planted once the roots become sufficiently large. Grafting should be performed towards the end of winter or early spring.
The irrigation of the plant varies according to the different seasons: it must be frequent in the summer and reduced during the winter. Furthermore, while young plants require more frequent watering because they fear drought periods more. In areas with a temperate climate, during the autumn and winter seasons, it could also be sufficient to water the plant once a month.
The rocket is one of the most particular salads, due to its characteristic spicy taste that makes it ideal in the kitchen to give sparkle to different recipes. So a salad that is not just a side dish but can be used in sauces or as an aromatic herb to pair with meats and cheeses, or to put in toast and wraps.
The rocket is also called ruchetta or ruca, its botanical name is Eruca vesicaria and is a plant of the Brassicaceae or cruciferous family, a relative therefore of cabbage and radishes. As a property, the vegetable has a good content of mineral salts and the fresh rocket is also rich in vitamin C.
It is a very simple plant to grow and produce, for this reason, it is a recommended cultivation of the organic family garden. From the point of view of adversity, it often happens to find the leaves punctured by an altica and other small insects, which do more aesthetic damage than substance. The beauty of this crop is that it is very rustic and therefore it can be kept for most of the year, moreover it has a short cultivation cycle, therefore from the sowing to the harvest the step is short. Suitable climate. The rocket is very adaptable and is therefore particularly easy to put in the garden. Like many other crops in the garden, it fears water stagnation, which favors its illness, and drought, which can cause it to prematurely mount to seed. Frosts can damage it but can withstand cold well, withstanding temperatures up to 5 degrees.
A row of rocket The ideal terrain. Any type of soil is fine for growing rocket, with a preference for a soil that is draining but rich in organic substance, tending to dry up with the heat.
Sowing period. The rocket can be sown from March to September, but with the cultivation, in the tunnel, it is, however, possible to prolong the cultivation period and have this fresh salad available for harvest almost all year round. Arugula seeds last a long time: a sachet of seeds purchased during the year can also be used for 4 years. The rocket germinates quickly and has a rapid growth: one week after sowing you will already see the seedlings ticking and after a while, you can collect the first leaves to put in the salad.
Planting or spreading seed. The rocket can be sown quietly in a scattered way, or in rows. The sowing is more rapid, the seeds are thrown and then raked while remaining light, so as to cover them with the earth. Seeding per row, on the other hand, there is the advantage of a better distribution of the plants, which remain well ventilated. In this case, you have to keep 25 cm between the rows and 5/10 cm between the seedlings. The seed must be buried at a little depth, just half a centimeter is enough.
